Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A Platform! Thank you for reaching out with your question.
I understand that you would like to add your custom domain in Azure DNS. Please follow the steps below to add your custom domain in Azure:
Before adding your custom domain, please delegate your domain in azure DNS.
Refer: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/dns/dns-delegate-domain-azure-dns
- Go to the Azure portal and navigate to your App Service (the service where your web app is hosted).
- Under Settings, select Custom domains.
- Click on Add custom domain.
- Enter your custom domain and click Add Domain.
For more detailed instructions, you can refer to this article:
Regarding your question about creating a new Azure subscription:
No, you do not need to create a new Azure subscription to use your custom domain.
You can simply add your domain to your existing Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) within your current Azure subscription.

Is an Azure custom domain hosted on GoDaddy behind the scenes? Why would I move it to Azure, if it is?
To clarify your query about whether an Azure custom domain is hosted on GoDaddy behind the scenes:
- GoDaddy is a domain registrar, not a hosting provider for your domain in Azure. Once you’ve purchased your domain from GoDaddy, you can use Azure DNS to manage the DNS records for your domain.
- Azure DNS allows you to configure where traffic for your domain should be directed, such as pointing it to an Azure App Service, Azure Web App, or other Azure resources.
