How to fix the drag and drop of items in the SharePoint List?

Hi,

I am having difficulty dragging and dropping, moving items in the list up and down. Sometimes it will work but often times, it does not drop exactly where I would like it in the list. It will indicate that the item has moved, however it does not.

It happens a lot also when I try to drag and drop in the list, and it moves it somewhere completely different than my cursor.

I have a large list with over 100 lines, and many different categories in each column.

Is this a bug or issue that can be resolved by Microsoft?

I am using Chrome and Edge, and I emptied my cache, and I have not seen a difference. I always have the same problem. My list is set on custom order.

    Hi @Victoria Dulmage-Abboud,

Thanks for reaching out to us. We are very pleased to support you.

According to the information you provided and the research I have done, I may understand that the items don't move just right to the position you specified when you move items in the same list. If there is anything wrong, please correct me.

If nothing else, I tested it in my environment and found everything to be fine.

You can see the orange line during the move identifies the target location of the item.

This doesn't appear to be a bug and is likely a random issue. Please run the following tests to troubleshoot why the issue is occurring:

    1. Ask your colleague to do the same on his computer to see if the problem persists.
    2. I recommend that you test on other lists to see if the problem affects all lists. If the problem is only with this one list, I suggest you recreate the list and move the data to the new list.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Moreover, if the issue can be fixed successfully, please click "Accept Answer" so that we can better archive the case and the other community members who are suffering the same issue can benefit from it.

Your kind contribution is much appreciated.

Thank you for your answer. This is only for this list. I do not want to replicate the list because it has a lot of information, with over 100 lines and lots of columns and different categories of columns and options included in those. I also created different calendar views as well. Recreating the list would be tons of hours for a redo that is not 100% sure.

I believe this is a bug or system issue with SP list. Maybe it has to do with too much data captured in the list?

Could this be something for Microsoft to look into? It seems like it's a wide-spread problem amongst issues.
