Hello Support,

Recently I have enrolled myself for the Analyze monitoring data with Kusto Query Language Learning Path, where on the first module I have been experiencing an issue with openin the query getting error:

Selected user account does not exist in tenant 'Microsoft' and cannot access the application '' in that tenant. The account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant first. Please use a different account.

I am actually using the onmicrosoft.com account which have created when enrolled for the 30 days free subsciption in order for me to follow the learning path, but now unable to use.

For example I can access the Log Analytics and run some queries, but when I click on the Run query button from Unit 7 of 9 regarding the exercise I am gettin the above error.

When I try to manually run the query from Log Analytics, it is showing me no results! When checked my normal Microsoft account I cannot see nothing in the subscription.

Please assist me on how to resolve the issue and continue learning KQL as currently unable to !

    Hi ,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

    • Sign out of all Microsoft/Azure services in your browser.
    • Open an incognito or private browser window and sign in using only the onmicrosoft.com credential tied to your free trial subscription.
    • This avoids any cached credentials from a personal or work account interfering.
    • Instead of launching from the learning module link, open Log Analytics directly in the Azure Portal.
    • Confirm that you’re connected to the correct Log Analytics workspace.
    • Copy/paste the KQL query from the module and run it. If you see no results, either the workspace has no data or you are connected to the wrong workspace.

    Hi @Niko

It seems that the issue you are experiencing is due to the use of an onmicrosoft.com account, which is currently not supported for accessing certain features in the learning platform. The error message indicates that your account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant you are trying to access.

To resolve this issue, you can ask your administrator to create a new account in the tenant of the subscription and use that account to register on the Learn platform. This should allow you to access the necessary resources and continue your learning path without further issues.

Additionally, ensure that you are logged into the correct tenant where your Log Analytics workspace exists to avoid any authorization issues.
