I have a problem with update KB5051987. I get an error message saying that the update is not installed. When I restart my PC, I see that updates are in progress, and the machine starts up as normal afterwards. When I go back to Windows Update, I see in the update log that KB5051987 is installed. Yet Windows Update continues to download and install the same update, but with error message 0x00f0983. This has now happened four times. My question is why Windows Update wants to install the update when it is already installed? I have run the troubleshooter for Windows Update, all DISM commands and sfc /scannow in Powershell.

Let us find the root cause of the problem.

To simplify things, please download and let the update fail once. It will leave a trace for the failure.

    Then, do the following:

Open your File Explorer and go to your system drive, which is commonly C drive.

    Navigate to Windows>Logs>CBS folder.

You may need to check the Hidden items option under the View tab in tool bar to show the Logs folder.

Right-click on the CBS.log file and select Copy.

    Paste it to your desktop.

Go to your OneDrive account and upload CBS.log from the Desktop.

Share the link of the CBS log and post it in the next reply.

Thank you very much for your reply. Before you posted your answer, I was in contact with Microsoft customer support. We solved the problem by reinstalling Windows 11, and the installation of KB5051987 then went without problems.
