Hi I have my microsoft login using my gmail ******@gmail.com , using this i created all my resources . on the active directory i see a similar id which i guess is an external user linked to my actual id the id is mailtomani.ramu_gmail.com#EXT#@mailtomaniramugmail.onmicrosoft.com

I know the password and i used to use this login to my applications since it had global permissions and i used to have a authenticator set up with my old phone. Now I changed my phone and I dont know how to get the authenticator in that or reset it and reset up it . I am confused with my orginal account ******@gmail.com where i see all and the external mailtomani.ramu_gmail.com#EXT#@mailtomaniramugmail.onmicrosoft.com, how to get the authenticator reset on my new phone.

    Hi @Manikandan Ramasamy
Thank you for posting your issue on Microsoft Q&A.

I understand that you logged into your Microsoft account using your Gmail address,

'******@gmail.com.' The ID 'mailtomani.ramu_gmail.com#EXT#@mailtomaniramugmail.onmicrosoft.com' appears because your Gmail address has been invited as a guest user to your tenant. This ID is displayed whenever you log into the tenant, and the '#EXT' indicates that your email is invited as a guest. This is expected behavior.

Follow the document for more information: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/external-id/b2b-quickstart-add-guest-users-portal

Now you are changing the phone. Follow below steps to setup authenticator app in your new phone:

    • You can restore accounts on authenticator App provided you had backed it up earlier, more details available on Restore account credentials from Microsoft Authenticator.
    • If you had registered alternate authentication method like contact number than you can try following:
      • Try to login to https://aka.ms/mfasetup.
      • Complete MFA with Contact Number (Call or OTP).
      • Register Authenticator App again.
    • If above both methods do not work, as your Global Admin reset Authentication Methods on your account using steps mentioned on following article for option Require re-register MFA: Manage user authentication options

Hope this helps. Do let us know if you have any further queries.

If this answers your query, do click `Accept Answer` and `Yes`.

    Thanks,

    B. Siri Chandana.
