Create Assistants using o3-mini using Assistants API/quickstart

Hi. Can o3-mini be used to create Assistants using this Assistants API/quickstart? Is there any limitation on token limit etc.? We've deployed models on GPT4o and considering migration to o3mini (if/when approved).

You can use the o3-mini model to create Assistants with the Assistants API/QuickStart. There aren't any specific token limit restrictions for o3-mini. It supports a larger context window of up to 200,000 tokens and a maximum output of 100,000 tokens. The way your prompt the o3-mini model may be different from other models, so you might need to modify your prompts accordingly

@Saideep Anchuri Hello, I just tried the new o3-mini-2025-01-31 with the Azure OpenAI service with an API call and I got as a response "code: "unsupported_model"

message: "The requested model 'o3-mini' with engine 'o3-mini-2025-01-31' cannot be used with the Assistants API."

param: "model"

type: "invalid_request_error" .

Do you have any insight on that? I don't see the model deployment in the playground as well, so I suppose the model really might not be available yet?

The documentation states that they are compatible but it appears they are currently not. When using the Azure OpenAI Assistants API, I get an error:

Error: 400 The requested model 'o3-mini' with engine 'o3-mini-2025-01-31' cannot be used with the Assistants API.

Additionally, people in the thread you linked report similar issues, through Azure and non-Azure OpenAI.

@Colin Harman same - Even if you deploy o3-mini through Azure and try to go into the Assistants playground, you cannot select o3-mini as a model.

@Saideep Anchuri It appears that o3-mini does not work at all with Assistants. Can you help us track this issue so we know when it is fixed?
