I was logged out from Instagram by a hacking attempt. I reset the profile and now have the correct password and username.

However when I try to log in I need to use the authentication app which for some reason isn’t providing the code to enable me to log in.

    1. Look for Any Backup Codes (IMPORTANT) or Alternate Verification Methods

When you set up 2FA, Instagram gave you backup codes. If you saved them, now’s the time to use one!

If you don’t have those, see if Instagram offers another way in—like an SMS or email code that they can send you after letting them know about being hacked.

    1. Delete the Old Instagram Entry in MS Authenticator

    OPEN MS authenticator app.

Find the Instagram account listing and remove it. (It’s probably not showing the right codes anymore.)

    1. Add Instagram Back to Your Authenticator
    2. Log in to Instagram using one of those backup codes or alternate methods (like an SMS code).
    3. Go to Settings → Security → Two-Factor Authentication.
    4. Choose “Authentication App” and follow the instructions:

    Scan the QR code or

    Enter the setup key manually.

    1. Your authenticator app will now generate brand-new codes that should work perfectly.

    1. Save Your New Backup Codes

Instagram will issue a fresh set of backup/recovery codes. Don’t forget to store them in a safe place (like a password manager or a secure note on your phone).

    1. Still Locked Out?

If nothing’s working, go to “Get Help Logging In” or “Can’t Reset Your Password?” on Instagram. You might need to verify your identity through official support.

That’s it! For most people, just removing the old entry in your authenticator and setting it up again fixes the problem. Good luck—hope you’re back to scrolling and posting in no time!
