Connecting to Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 from Tableau Desktop is throwing error

Error Receiving in Tableau Desktop:

Tableau received an OAuth error from your request. Please see the error message for more information: User authorization failed (invalid_client).

When checked the auth url it seems the url is the one like below -

https://login.microsoftonline.com/common/oauth2/v2.0/authorize?client_id=0464ea90-c12f-42a7-b347-c2311ca4413c

It seems that the application is trying to create or find a app registration with client id as 0464ea90-c12f-42a7-b347-c2311ca4413c but however I am not finding any app registration with the client id, and I am also not getting any option to auto create it as well during sign-in.

There is no way to manually set client id and secret for the tableau application, I think I am missing something like permission or setting here. Can anyone here guide me?

I can use the Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 storage from Storage Explorer though.

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Q&A.

Firstly, I can understand that based on the authorization URL which is as mentioned below that the application with Application ID(Client ID) = 0464ea90-c12f-42a7-b347-c2311ca4413c is configured as a Multi-tenant application.

https://login.microsoftonline.com/common/oauth2/v2.0/authorize?client_id=0464ea90-c12f-42a7-b347-c2311ca4413c

Please note that if the application is configured as a Multi-tenant application, then the application sends the Authentication request to the /common endpoint.

Please refer to the below Screenshot for your information.

To further check this issue deeply, could you please provide the below mentioned details.

1.Please update us whether if you have configured the application named Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 in Microsoft Entra ID or not.

2.If you have configured the application named Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 in Microsoft Entra ID, please provide the Application id of the Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2.

3.Please provide the Error Screenshot you are getting.

4.Please update us that if you are getting any Authentication issues and whether the users are successfully able to access the application named Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 or not.

5.Please note that if the application has been configured as a Multi tenant application, then in the Resource tenant, you have to search for the application under Enterprise Applications section.

6.Please note that you can see the application by searching with Application ID or Client ID or Application name only in the App Registrations section in the Home tenant where the application has been configured as a Multi tenant application and you cannot see the application in App Registrations section in the Resource tenant.

I am new to Azure, I have not configured Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 in Entra ID and also did not configure any application id.
