Onenote Draw and hold not working

Hi,

I just got the new SP11 (arm) and it seems that the hold-to-draw feature stopped working. I have the 2024 Office LTSC version and the functionality of the shape to draw stopped working this week. I cannot find an option to fix it or why it stopped working. Any advice is appreciated.

Was there any Office update installed before the issue occurred?

If so, you may try to rollback to earlier version.

For example, we roll back to "Version 2408 (Build 17932.20190)", we may press Win + R to open Run Dialog, then enter following command. To get other version numbers, please refer to: "Volume licensed versions of Office LTSC 2024". "C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun\officec2rclient.exe" /update user updatetoversion=16.0.17932.20190

If the drawing cannot be automatically converted into a shape, please check whether there is an "Automatic Shapes" icon in ribbon. You may use it as a workaround.

there was no update to office. I will be deleting and reinstalling the full suite as repair didn't work.

Here are my findings. Office downloaded from the Windows store as a standalone app works. The moment I install the 2024 Office LTSC the function stops working. Why is this happening?

Office downloaded from the Windows store as a standalone app works

What version of Office did you download from the Windows Store.

As far as I know, retail versions of Office are available from the Windows Store.

But Office LTSC 2024 is a volume license version, which requires tool (such as ODT) and configuration files (.xml) to install.

My guess is that this feature may not be available in the volume licensed version of Office LTSC 2024. The volume license version of Office is relatively stable, and some feature updates are fewer compared to the retail versions.

It was only the standalone Onenote app in the store, not the full office suite.
The 2024 LTSC Office should have the feature, as it has been out for several years. I can't understand why it would be a problem unless MS sees it as a way to convince people to use 365. Which it doesn't work for me.

Sorry for bringing you a bad experience.

And I understand your doubts. Some other users also report this issue that the "Draw and Hold feature" does not work in certain versions of OneNote. But there is currently no solution.

This needs to be reported to Microsoft for the development team to investigate and fix. I suggest you also share this feedback with Microsoft to make the feedback voice louder. You can do that from within the OneNote app. The icon for 'Send feedback' is on top-right corner of the app.

yeah I get it. It is crazy to me they would remove important features you would expect. I will give feedback on this matter in the channels you mention.
