Issues with GPU VM Quota Increase on Azure Startup Founders Program

Hi,

We're participating in Azure's Startup Founders Program and need to use software that requires an NVIDIA GPU with a compute capability of 5.0 or higher (https://mumax.github.io/). Since yesterday, I've been trying to set up a basic GPU VM, but every attempt to select a GPU while creating a Virtual Machine results in an error about insufficient quota.

I've contacted support multiple times but haven't received any response, only the automated "rejected".

Does anyone know why our requests for a quota increase are being denied?

    Hi Danilo Miranda,
Thanks for contacting Microsoft Q&A platform.

Right now, GPU SKUs are incredibly popular and there has been unprecedented demand with the explosion in AI based solutions. That may mean that it's more difficult to get specific GPU SKUs in some regions and existing customers may be prioritized over newly created subscriptions in certain regions for specific SKUs where there is high demand.

If your quota requests are being rejected, then it means that the SKU you requested is not available for the subscription you made the request on in that region at the current time however I'm happy to do my best to make a recommendation if you are able to provide the Azure regions you are interested in. Broadly speaking within the US I would currently start by looking at the NDv2-series and the NCads H100 v5-series.

Additionally, if this is urgent, you could try creating a new pay-as-you-go subscription to explore expanded access through a separate paid subscription, you can do so by visiting the Microsoft Azure website and following the instructions to create a new subscription.

    Alternative approach:

We have official documentation that now covers this. Details can be found on Startup GPU Cluster page.

The Startup GPU Cluster is a set of interconnected GPUs optimized and made available specifically for distributed training and fine-tuning. Startups can request access to this GPU cluster for short periods of time and use their Founders Hub credits, when available, to pay for it. As of January 2024, the cluster is a set of 500 NDmA100s, subject to change at a future date.

I hope this has been helpful!
