Hi, I need to understand Azure App services logs retention period. What happened if I select Retention Period in AppService--> App Service logs--> Retention Period(Days) as 0. Will it save Appservice logs permanently?

Hi Srikanth Gorantla By default, site diagnostic logs are never deleted. Using this option will delete the logs older than the specified number of days. If you set the Retention Period (Days) to 0, then the logs will not be retained and hence not stored permanently. They would be deleted or not stored at all.

You have to ensure logs are kept for a specified duration by setting up a retention period greater than 0 days (for example, 7 days to retain logs for a week).

Hi Srikanth Gorantla

You can store the logs in a storage account and save it without any retention. You may check, how to enable diagnostic Logging of App service as explained here. When you enable diagnostic logging, the logs are being send to a storage account and it can be saved permanently

Hi philip, Thanks for your answer. If I configure diagnostic logging then what is the importance of Appservice Logs settings(ex. Retention period(days)) in web app? You can refer the screenshot shared in above question. If I sent all app service logs to storage account then is this all logs can be able to observe by run azure diagnostic logs query in app service--> logs--> run query? If yes, how many days I can able to see logs by query in web app?
