Hi ,
Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.
It depends on the platform’s retention behavior—often there is a “soft delete” phase where the certificate profile isn’t fully removed right away. During that time, the platform continues to count it against your quota. Typically:
- Soft Delete / Grace Period: Many services keep deleted certificates in a soft-deleted state for a fixed number of days (7, 30, or 90 days). During that time, you usually can’t recreate or replace it unless you purge it or wait out the retention period.
- Purging (If Supported): Check if your service/portal allows “purge” or “force delete.” Purging lets you immediately and permanently remove the certificate from your account, freeing up the quota to create a new one. If purging isn’t supported, you must wait for the certificate to age out of soft-delete.
- Upgrade Your Plan: If you need additional certificates or can’t wait for soft-delete to finish, you may need to upgrade your pricing plan (from Basic to Standard).
Since you’re already seeing “deleting” status, your best bet is to see if a purge option is available or wait for it to fully delete. Once that happens (and it stops counting against your quota), you’ll be able to create a new certificate profile. If there’s no direct way to purge, you could contact support or wait the standard retention period, which varies by service (commonly a few days to a month).
