On Jan 3, 2025, I updated my Win 10 professional version. Five driver update packages are installed automatically. Among five, two are Realtek Semiconductor Corp Extension and three are Dolby Extension. After these five driver update, I found that my laptop, Thinkpad X1 carbon Gen 12, cannot play the music, i.e., no sound at all. So, I think these five package cannot work well with my laptop. I remove these drives and reinstall the original driver of the sound card. Now it is fine. As a result, I have to stop the windows update. Otherwise these five packages will be automatically installed. But, without windows update, the virus of windows defender cannot be updated. That is the problem. Could Microsoft fix these five packages so that I can update my Win 10 as usual?

    Hello

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

Here are a few steps you can take to resolve this issue while still allowing Windows updates to proceed:

    1. Hide Problematic Updates: You can use the "Show or Hide Updates" troubleshooter tool from Microsoft to prevent specific updates from being installed. This way, you can block the problematic Realtek and Dolby driver updates while allowing other updates, including Windows Defender updates, to proceed. You can take reference and download the tool from here:

    1. Manually Install Drivers: If you haven't already, you can manually download and install the original drivers for your sound card from the Lenovo support website. This ensures that you have the correct drivers that are compatible with your hardware. You can find the drivers for your Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 12.
    2. Update Windows Defender Manually: While you are blocking the problematic updates, you can manually update Windows Defender to ensure your system remains protected.

I hope the information above is helpful.
