Force restart doesn't work

Good afternoon,

I think: Specify the amount of time after the deadline before a device gets restarted (minutes). It's not working...

I have few devices with this issue around 4 of 2000 devices doesn't restart in windows maintenance ...

I discovered in all devices have a user logged on and in the log doesn't say nothing about user not logged, reboot now!.

So ... Why it's not restarting if we have a maintenance window set to 4h and Specify the amount of time after the deadline before a device gets restarted (minutes). to 60 minutes

The only difference between devices is an user logged on the device... But ... Specify the amount of time after the deadline before a device gets restarted (minutes) should force to restart one hour after deadline, true?

Why is not forcing to restart?

Do you mean only 4 of 2000 devices doesn't restart one hour after deadline? And the other devices can restart correctly?

Have we get any message in RebootCoordinator.log after software update installations? Are you deploying software update?

Do you have multiple maintenance windows configured for these devices?

Yes only 4/9 devices of 2000 it's not a lot, but I want to know why they have this behavior.

The other devices restart correctly.

We haven't multiple maintenance window.

I think is because we have a user connected to the device... But... Should do a countdown to force the reboot.. I don't know why is not forcing the reboot....

ServiceWindowsManager has not allowed us to reboot

You might need to check ServiceWindowManager.log for more details.

I test in my lab, even if I have a user connected to the device, I get a countdown to force the reboot, and get the message "MTC allowed us to reboot" in RebootCoordinator.log

Can you show me the Client Settings > Computer Restart?

I se you configured the frequency of restart reminder notification to 60 minutes, that means the first reminder notification is set to start 60 minutes after the deadline, which is equals to the amount of time after the deadline before a device gets restarted, so the user doesn't see any reminders.

You may try to set the frequency of restart reminder notification to 20 minutes or 30 minutes to see if it helps.

I know it's 60 minutes but where is the problem?

We have 4h of windows maintenance.

What is wrong?

My deadline is before windows maintenance start... For example

Deadline (assuming is deployment installation deadline: 3:30AM)
Maintenance window (allow restart): 8:00AM

So.... Why the settings doesn't force the computer restart?

:(

EDIT: The only difference with other devices is an user is logged on the device... And if the user is logged, doesn't restart.. I don't know why ...

The last answer is about why the user doesn't see any reminders, because you specify the frequency of restart reminder notification to 60 minutes.

I thought this could be related to why the computer not forcing the reboot, but I test it with your configuration today, even I cannot get the restart reminder notification, it still restarted after 60 minutes.

So I check your log again, I have some new idea.

I found this computer is a server, so have we suppress the system restart on Servers in the deployment like below?

The log raise a new event, so we may check event log to see if there any new founds.

The log mentioned User xxxx is getting pending reboot information, is there any possible the computer is in pending reboot status before the software updates installed?

Restart is not suppressed:

The log raise a new event, so we may check event log to see if there any new founds:

The Security System has detected a downgrade attempt when contacting the 3-part SPN

with error code "The attempted logon is invalid. This is either due to a bad username or authentication information.

(0xc000006d)". Authentication was denied.

At 8:25 I only see this at system hive at Application I don't see nothing interesting...

Because I think first reboot the device before install the patches.. But ... We have windows maintenance... If its pending of reboot... Why don't reboot?

I can't figure why the device is why say: ServiceWindowsManager not allowed us to reboot

We have windows type 1 (all deployments) so.... Why the log say don't have maintenance window?

No Service Windows of this type exist.

There does not exist an All Programs window for this duration or the all programs window is not used as fallback.

It seems your maintenance window is not configured correctly, you may check the properties of your maintenance, did you apply this schedule to "All deployment" or "Software updates"?

Is the runtime the time estimated for execution?

You may check if you changed the Maximum Run Time of the updates you deployed.

Be sure to set the maximum run time value smaller than the configured maintenance window time or increase the maintenance window time to a value greater than the maximum run time. Otherwise, the software update installation will never initiate.
