Problems Locating BitLocker Recovery Key

Question

Experiencing an issue where a device prompts for a BitLocker key during login.

Upon checking the backend, no BitLocker keys were found. Additionally, login reports indicate that the device has been inactive for about a year.

Also, we have checked in Entra ID and Account information of the user.

Check Alternative Storage Locations.

Ask the user to log into their Microsoft account at https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey to check if the key is saved there.

Unfortunately, without the BitLocker recovery key, data recovery will be impossible.

Data recovery software solutions might not be effective for encrypted data.

If data recovery is not critical, you may need to reset the device.

If you can't find, the only solution is to perform a clean install.

Note: Microsoft Support is unable to provide, or recreate, a lost BitLocker recovery key.
