Windows Server 2016 | KB5048671 is failed to install

Hello,

KB5048671 is tried to install. But it fails to install with below message in cbs.log.

This issue happening in many Windows Server 2016 servers.

Please help on how to fix this.

    1. Run System File Checker (SFC) & DISM command to scan and repair system file:

    • Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the following command:

    sfc /scannow

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    1. Reset Windows Update Components:

    Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the following commands:

    net stop wuauserv

    net stop cryptSvc

    net stop bits

    net stop msiserver

    ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

    ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old

    net start wuauserv

    net start cryptSvc

    net start bits

    net start msiserver

    1. If the pending.xml file is corrupted or causing update issues, you can try renaming or deleting it. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run: 
            ren C:\Windows\WinSxS\pending.xml pending.old
