what is the server address for the Microsoft Defender VPN?

I am thinking about turning on the subject VPN. However, some of the posts I see have a different server address than what I see in settings. So, I want to make sure the server address I have is correct.

Microsoft Defender for Identity can integrate with your VPN solution by listening to RADIUS accounting events forwarded to Defender for Identity sensors, such as the IP addresses and locations where connections originated. VPN accounting data can help your investigations by providing more information about user activity, such as the locations from where computers are connecting to the network, and an extra detection for abnormal VPN connections.

VPN Server address is your VPN server, there is no Microsoft Defender VPN server.

Under the connections properties for Microsoft Defender VPN there is a 'server name or address'. How do I know it is correct? Hence, I am asking for what is the correct one. You say it is my VPN server, yet . . .

Hi @Brian , Defender for Identity's VPN integration is based on standard RADIUS Accounting (RFC 2866), and supports the following VPN vendors:

Microsoft

F5

Check Point

Cisco ASA

One of the prerequisites for setting Defender for Identity VPN integration is the ability to configure RADIUS on your VPN system. So, you need to change the RADIUS configuration of your VPN server. If you don't know the hostname or address of your VPN server, how can you change the RADIUS configuration?

I'm wondering whether we are talking about the same subject. Are you referring to "Microsoft Defender for Identity VPN integration" or "Microsoft Defender privacy protection"? Please clarify.

This is the Microsoft Defender VPN that comes with the Microsoft 365 Family subscription. Also, I went here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/microsoft-defender-for-individuals-families looking for a simple answer or guide, yet just a bunch of words, links, etc. :-( A simple flow diagram would be very helpful rather than trying to navigate multiple pages. Thanks.

I misunderstood your situation. It is Microsoft Defender privacy protection feature. The VPN server is determined automatically, it's not configurable. The Defender VPN automatically connects to the nearest Defender VPN server to help you can get a secure connection with the best performance and therefore does not allow you to choose a region/country you’d like to connect to.

The VPN server is determined automatically, it's not configurable.

The Defender VPN automatically connects to the nearest Defender VPN server to help you can get a secure connection with the best performance and therefore does not allow you to choose a region/country you’d like to connect to.

Privacy protection automatically chooses the best and usually the closest Microsoft VPN server. Privacy protection doesn't allow you to specify regions. Privacy Protection enables you to keep your data private while connecting to unsecured public Wi-Fi and prevents it from being used to bypass geographic and regional-restricted content.

Get started? All it states is to download the app. This came with my 365 subscription and was already on my PC. What you pointed to is for the mobile app.
