Keep current location when sorting in New Outlook

I frequently use sorting to locate specific items in Outlook. With previous versions of Outlook, the most recently viewed email is the focus of the sorted list regardless of the sort criteria. So if I am viewing emails in date order and want to find a sender whose name starts with the letter F, I select an email from a sender with the letter E, F or G and then sort by Sender. Then I know I will be close to the email I want.

The new version of Outlook defaults to the lowest value of the sort, so when I sort by Sender, I lose my place and have to drag through the list from A to F. With a large number of emails, this can take a very long time since the drag function is incredibly slow.
