How to use Outlook emailbox to send emails?

Our Node.js program used to use Outlook email to send emails without any issues, and provided user/password authentication using Basic. However, the Basic authentication method has recently been abandoned by Outlook mailbox, so now email sending has failed. I checked the information and it says that oauth2 authentication needs to be enabled, May I ask how to fix this issue and what tasks do I need to do? Using Outlook can successfully send emails.

Hi @Developer GZ

This is because your tenant does not have an MS 365 subscription. When you try to access MS 365 services, you will need an MS 365 license.

Before doing so, please purchase or start a free trial of an MS 365 subscription for your tenant. Then, go to the MS 365 Admin Center to assign the license to the user on whose behalf you are sending the mail.

I have a requirement,

which is to use an Outlook account email to send emails.

These types of email are mostly Outlook and Hotmail accounts, They are all free email accounts.

My application needs to use this type of email as a sender to send emails.

How should I proceed? What licenses are needed?

Sorry for the late reply.

Having an Exchange Online license alone is not enough. To call the Graph API to send emails, you also need an MS 365 license.

Hi @Developer GZ

If you are trying to use a personal account to call the Graph API to send emails, you need to configure your application to allow personal account login and then change /{tenant_id} to /common when logging in to the application and requesting an access token.
