For instance, if I send VM performance logs to my Log Analytics Workspace, is that data solely used for analysis and monitoring within my Azure environment, or could Microsoft use it for other purposes like product development or analytics unrelated to my use case

Microsoft has always had a broad data privacy policy.

There would be legal ramifications for any company who used your private data without consent.

    eg: GDPR, GLBA.

    Hi Teddy

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A Platform! Thank you for asking your question here.

Sending VM performance logs to your Log Analytics Workspace in Azure enables analysis and monitoring within your Azure environment, supporting performance tracking, troubleshooting, and gaining insights into the operation of your virtual machines.

Microsoft's privacy policies state that your data is primarily used to provide the services you’ve subscribed to. However, they may use aggregated and anonymized data to improve their services, develop new products, and enhance performance and reliability. This ensures your individual data isn’t directly used for other purposes, but insights from combined data might help refine Microsoft’s offerings.

To understand how your data is handled, it’s important to review the specific terms, conditions, and privacy policies for Azure services. The Microsoft Trust Center and the Online Services Terms documentation provide detailed information on how data is collected, used, and protected, ensuring transparency and compliance with data protection regulations.
