Error when setting destination in Copy Data activity (MS Fabric)

Hi all,

In my Fabric workspace, I have a pipeline with a "Copy Data" activity.

The source is a lakehouse.

I am trying to set the destination to be SQL Server.

I have put in the server name, username and password. I also checked the checkbox for "Use encrypted connection".

When I click connect, I get this error (The remote computer refused the network connection), shown in snapshot below:

I also have remote connections enabled via SSMS,

My SQL Server instance is running on a Docker container (which was turned on the whole time I tried connecting from Fabric).

That checkbox in SSMS has nothing to do with whether you can connect from remote connections. I believe that this is a configuration option that pertains to very old functionality that is no longer available. (Please don't ask why SSMS exposes it.)

Had this been an instance running on Windows, you would use SQL Server Configuration Manager to control which protocols SQL Server are listening to.

Now you are running Docker, and I am less sure what might the reason for the error. Since the error message says that the connection was actively refused, I'm inclined to think that this is a firewall issue.

Are you able to access the database from SSMS running on the Docker host? From SSMS on another machine than the Docker host?

Yes I can access the database from SSMS within the same machine as the one where Docker host is running.
