Maximum number of secrets reached

First question/post, so I apologize if not in the correct category. I'm using Microsoft Entra (within the admin center). I'm attempting to add credentials to a new Enterprise Application (Users and Groups -> Update Credentials) but I'm getting this error message: "Unable to save credentials, the maximum number of secrets has been reached". I have deleted multiple apps but still running into this issue.

Some questions:

  1. If I upgrade my subscription does it allow for more secrets?
  2. Where can I see in the admin center the number of secrets in use?
  3. Any other options/suggestions?

Thanks for your assistance!

    Hi @ews2001
Thank you for sharing your issue on Microsoft Q&A.

I Understand you are encountering the error message: "Unable to save credentials; the maximum number of secrets has been reached." This occurs because a user cannot have more than 48 credentials configured across all password SSO apps they are directly assigned to.

To add more apps with password-based SSO for a user, consider assigning the app to a group that the user directly belongs to. By doing this, the credentials configured for the group will automatically be available to all its members.

Follow the document for additional information: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity/enterprise-apps/troubleshoot-password-based-sso#i-cant-add-another-user-to-my-password-based-sso-app
    As per your queries:

1.Upgrading your subscription will not increase the number of credentials that can be configured for a user. The limit is set by Microsoft and cannot be changed.

2.Yes, you can see in the admin center the number of secrets in use by going Applications>App registrations>Certificates & secrets.

Hope this helps. Do let us know if you have any further queries.
