Virtual IP vs Inbound IP - what do you point DNS to?

I have setup a custom domain for an Azure webapp. When I look at the overview, it shows a specific IP for the Virtual IP address. However, when I look at Networking - there is a different IP address for "Inbound". Which one is supposed to be used for DNS records?

If you're using Azure DNS, you can set it directly from Azure Static Web Apps portal: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/static-web-apps/custom-domain-azure-dns#map-the-domain-to-your-website

If you're not using Azure DNS, you can use CNAME and point it to Azure Static Web Apps URL: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/static-web-apps/custom-domain-external#get-your-static-web-app-url

When configuring DNS records for an Azure web app, you should generally use the Virtual IP (VIP) address rather than the Inbound IP address.

Virtual IP (VIP) Address: This is a static IP address assigned to the Azure web app. It is typically used for DNS configuration and is the IP address that you should point your custom domain’s A record to. This ensures that traffic directed to your custom domain reaches your web app.

Inbound IP Address: This might refer to a dynamic IP address that can change, and it is generally used for inbound traffic management or for specific network configurations within Azure. It is not typically used for DNS records for custom domains.

I tried using the Virtual IP address, but this did not work. I have a custom domain configured and this was only accessible by pointing the DNS records to the "Inbound IP".

why do I want to use a CNAME versus just pointing to the Inbound IP?
