Hi,

I updated BIOS on my computer. And when it was finished it made me login with an account I never logged in with before. I am not sure if a lost my account. I lost all my shortcuts and passwords saved onto my computer. But when I go into my files i still see my downloads(so I don't think I lost everything) I've seen online this might be a boot order as I have two drives. How do I deal with this?

Please help,

Enzo

It seems boot order in the BIOS is changed.

Restart your computer by using any of these keys: F2, F12, Del, or Esc and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings.

Ensure the correct drive is at the top.

    Save the changes.

    Reboot.

In Windows check if your original user profile exists:

Press Windows + R, type "C:\Users" and press Enter

Look for your original user profile folder name.

This means the computer boots into the wrong drive. Please go to the BIOS and change another drive as the first booting device. This will help you get into the right Windows installation with the correct user.

    Hello,

Here’s what you could try to check:

    Check User Accounts:

Go to the Control Panel and navigate to “User Accounts” to see if your original account is listed. If you see your original account listed there, try logging out of the current account:

Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and select “Sign out” or “Log off.”

From the login screen, select your original account and log in as usual.

    Recover Profile via Registry (Advanced):

If you are logged into a temporary profile, changes you make to this profile will usually be discarded upon logout. There could be an issue with your original profile that may need to be fixed using the Registry Editor.

Press Windows Key + R, type regedit, and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.

    Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList.

You will see several folders (keys) named with a long set of numbers and letters. Click on each one and look for the ProfileImagePath entry in the pane on the right. It will show the path to the user profiles on your computer.

If you find two folders with similar long names, one ending in .bak, the one without .bak might be your temporary profile, and the one with .bak is likely your original profile.

You can try fixing this by renaming the .bak to remove the .bak, and renaming the other one (temporary profile) to add .bak to its name. After this, restart your computer and see if you can log into your original profile.

    Best Regards,

    Hania Lian
