Hello,

I received an email from a vendor of ours that had the attached attachments.

Since receiving this email, I have had one vendor, who I emailed, state that the attachments got sent to him as well.

Will you please let me know what these attachments are? Are they harmful? How do I get rid of them getting attached to emails?

Thank you.

    Hi, @Jordan Gamelin

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

According to your description, you have encountered the problem of automatically adding attachments when sending emails. First of all, regarding the security issue of the attachments you described, I have the following questions to confirm with you:

    1. Is the source of the email with attachments you received safe?
    2. What is the format of the attachments in the email in your screenshot?
    3. Did you open these attachments? If you are not sure whether the source of the email and attachments is safe, it is not recommended to open the attachments.

Based on my research, I currently think that the problem may be caused by the attachments in the spam. I suggest that you try the following steps to see if it helps:

    1. To ensure the security of the received emails, it is recommended that you ensure that the version of Outlook is the latest and turn on all security features such as spam filtering and attachment scanning.
    2. Try to delete your account in the control panel mail and then add the account again.
    3. If you are sure that the attachment is malicious or unnecessary, try to delete the attachment cache and clear the attachments that may not be closed after saving the attachments you need:
    • Use the shortcut key 'Win+R' to open the Run dialog box.
    • Type 'regedit' and confirm to open the User Account Control.
    • In the Registry Editor window, open Security and select HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office<version>\Outlook\Security.
    • Locate the Outlook security temporary folder and copy it. Open in Files, select the file and delete it.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. If the answer was helpful, please click Accept Answer as it may help other members of the Microsoft Q&A community who are having similar problems and are looking for solutions. Thank you.

    Best,

    Jeanne
