Suggestion: System Center Operations Manager tags on Microsoft Q&A
Syetem Center Operations Manager on Microsoft Q&A
I’ve reached out to you in the past regarding multiple Microsoft Q&A-related topics, so I thought here is the right place to address this case as well. It concerns the tags related to System Center Operations Manager (SCOM).
I’m currently 110% involved with SCOM, and during my frequent presentations, I always emphasize how useful the Microsoft Q&A platform is when it comes to getting help/support with SCOM.
However, I’ve heard that customers are struggling to find the SCOM tags. There are two major reasons for this:
- Lack of tag search functionality: With 389 tags (as of now), the inability to search tags makes it extremely time-consuming to locate the desired category, product, or tag.
- Inconsistent tag naming: Some System Center products are prefixed with "System Center" (e.g., System Center Orchestrator (SCOrch), System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM)), while others aren’t, such as System Center Operations Manager (SCOM), which is listed as "Operations Manager." This inconsistency creates confusion.
Example with prefix:
Examlpe without one:
How does this affect customers?
When customers try to sort by name, they still have to scroll through multiple pages of tags. When they don’t see SCOM listed alongside other "System Center" products, they often give up, resulting in a poor user experience. They don’t expect to browse through all the tags only to discover that "System Center Operations Manager" has been shortened to "Operations Manager."
At the end of the day, we’re doing this for our customers, and if we can’t provide an intuitive way for them to find what they need, something is off. Could you please look into adding a tag search option or, at the very least, unifying the naming conventions across the System Center suite? This would serve as a workaround until a search feature is implemented.
Hope thius helps. Regards,
Stoyan
