Hello,
Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
- Check Device Manager
Open Device Manager.
Look for your HID device under Smart card readers or Other devices.
If the device is not listed or has a yellow exclamation mark, there might be a driver issue.
Right-click on the device and select Update driver. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Reinstall Drivers
If updating the driver doesn't work, try uninstalling and reinstalling the driver.
Right-click on the device in Device Manager and select Uninstall device.
After uninstalling, restart your computer. Windows should automatically detect and reinstall the driver.
- Check Smart Card Service
Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
Scroll down to find Smart Card service.
Ensure that the service is running. If not, right-click on it and select Start.
Set the startup type to Automatic to ensure it starts every time you boot up.
- Check Smart Card Reader Configuration
Go to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Smart Card.
Click on Manage reader types.
Ensure that your HID reader is listed and configured correctly.
- Check Group Policy Settings
If you are in a corporate environment, group policy settings might affect smart card functionality.
Press Win + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter.
Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Smart Cards.
Check if any policies are set that might interfere with smart card operations.
- Test with Another User Account
Sometimes user profile issues can cause problems.
Create a new user account and test the smart card reader on that account.
- Check for Windows Updates
Ensure that your Windows 10 is fully updated.
Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
Click Check for updates and install any available updates.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards,
Hania Lian
