Hyper-V vs Stack HCI

Hello,

As i know the azure stack HCI is use hyper-v as the hypervisor but can managed by azure portal.

This mean there are some application or tools in hyper-v server so the VM can be managed by azure portal? If now i have standalone hyper-v, should i reinstall the hyper-v os or i can migrate this hyper-v standalone to stack HCI by installing somethings?

You're correct! Azure Stack HCI uses Hyper-V as the hypervisor and can be managed through the Azure Portal1. This means you can leverage existing Hyper-V tools and applications to manage your VMs, but you also get the added benefits of Azure management features.

If you have a standalone Hyper-V setup and want to migrate to Azure Stack HCI, you don't necessarily need to reinstall the Hyper-V OS. You can use Azure Migrate to move your Hyper-V VMs to Azure Stack HCI. Here's a high-level overview of the process:

Create an Azure Migrate Project: Set up a project in the Azure Portal.

Deploy Appliances: Install the source appliance on your Hyper-V server and the target appliance on your Azure Stack HCI cluster.

Discover and Replicate VMs: Use the Azure Migrate appliance to discover your Hyper-V VMs and start replicating them to the Azure Stack HCI cluster.

Migrate VMs: Once replication is complete, you can migrate the VMs to the Azure Stack HCI cluster with minimal downtime.
