How do I enter a GMAIL app password into Outlook 365?

I have had my gmail.com email account configured in Outlook for years. It just stopped working, and I guess "less secure apps" are no longer supported by Google and/or Microsoft (appears to have died end of 3Q24). Anyway, I have successfully created an APP PASSWORD in my Google account, but I see no way to apply this in Outlook. I deleted my email account in Outlook and am trying to readd it, but it NEVER provides an opportunity to input the App Password!!! I put in the email address and it just zooms ahead and comes back saying the encryption method is wrong, which it is not (SSL/TLS). I have tried "manual setup" but that doesn't help. Just how am I supposed to apply the GMail App Password so I can get my email in Outlook again?

What's the version of your Outlook? (File > Office Account > About Outlook). Please make sure you have upgraded your Outlook to the latest version.

How did you add your Gmail account in Outlook?

It is suggested that you could try to create a new profile (Control Panel>Mail>Show Profiles>add) and add the account.

I'm using the latest outlook, just updated during this troubleshooting to confirm this was not an issue. Version in use is:

Microsoft® Outlook® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2410 Build 16.0.18129.20100) 64-bit

To add my account, I just went to FILE, ADD ACCOUNT. It automatically finds my gmail account. But when it processes I get the "Something went wrong" response. Specifically, "We couldn't connect to the incoming (POP/IMAP) server using the specified encryption method. Please check the incoming (POP/IMAP) server encryption method and try again". I verified all the server settings, IMAP and SMTP, ports are correct (993 and 465), encryption is SSL/TLS.

I never get an option to add my google app password. No password prompt is offered at all.I checked the links for signing in with Google and everything looks correct. Web-based apps work fine in this regard. I checked the app password links and it just provides basics, does not address the specific problem I am experiencing, or advise specifically HOW to apply the password in the Outlook application on my desktop.

I'll try to create a new profile and see if that helps. Will advise.

I tried to create a new profile, automatically prompts for email account which is automatically discovered. But process results in the same error and failure. New profile is NOT created. I can reload the default profile and launch the desktop app, but still unable add account.

FYI, in the interim I am using MAIL.GOOGLE.COM without issue. So not sure what the desktop MS app is doing differently. Doesn't appear to be a server issue.

Any additional advice or guidance is appreciated.

Nope, no difference. Same error response.

What is going on here? It was working just fine until the end of last month. I was away and didn't check it for a week or so on Outlook, and when I got back a few weeks ago it was dead.

Surely, if I have an APP PASSWORD issued from Google, I should be allowed to configure this in MS Outlook.
