Word Crashing

Hello, Community!

I use Word's Developer mode to create building blocks in Normal.dotm. After I added a few blocks and saved, Normal.dotm started behaving awkwardly. It worked at first, but since then my Word keeps crashing. It opens for a few seconds and then closes. Sometimes it remains open, but most of the time it crashes when I try to open a new blank file. Normal.dotm was created under Office (Word) version 2409 build 18025.20160.

What's not clear to me is that on my laptop, the same Normal.dotm file runs perfectly fine. My laptop has an older version: 2108 build 14326.20454. Do I need to downgrade Office on my PC to get Normal.dotm working?

I've tried repairing in all ways, disabling supplements, uninstalling Office 365, and reinstalling, but nothing seems to work, not even in safe mode. The only way it works is by removing the Normal.dotm file and letting Office create a new one. However, that's not a solution for me.

If anyone can help, I'd be more than grateful.

    Hi @Marina

According to your description, you may roll back your Microsoft 365 Apps to earlier version to have a check.

Press Win + R, close Run dialog, then enter the command below.

    "C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun\officec2rclient.exe" /update user updatetoversion=16.0.14326.20404

Besides, if there is any anti-virus software, you may quit or disable it temporarily.
