The migration to Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server is in progress

Got a surprise this morning, where 2 of my Azure Single Server PostgreSQL instances were in migration progress.

The problem is, it is affecting my dev and prod env which means the DB is stuck in read-only mode. I can't see any progress on the migration, just stuck on in progress, and don't see the "new" flexible server.

We didn't have a support plan, got Developer plan (all we can afford) but the reply may take a while?

Advise, on how I get my DB out of this state?

    Hi @Elené Roos,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A Platform! Thank you for asking your question here.

We understand that, you are trying to migrate from Azure Single Server PostgreSQL instances to Flexible Servers. Unfortunately, your Azure Single Server PostgreSQL instances are stuck in migration progress.

As you have a Developer plan, you can try the following steps to resolve the issue:

    1. Check the migration status: Use the Azure portal or Azure CLI to check the migration status of the instances. Look for any error messages or warnings that could provide more information about the issue.
    2. Check the resource utilization: Verify that the resource utilization of the instances is within the limits of the new flexible server. If the resource utilization is too high, you may need to increase the resources of the new flexible server.
    3. Consider restoring from backup: If the migration is taking too long then you may need to consider restoring the instances from a backup. If you have a backup of the instances, you can restore them to a new flexible server and avoid the migration process. We request you to refer the below mentioned link. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/restore-azure-database-postgresql-flex https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/postgresql/migrate/migration-service/tutorial-migration-service-single-to-flexible?tabs=portal%2Coffline

We would like to inform you that, restoring from backup may result in data loss if the backup is not up-to-date. Therefore, it is recommended to always have a backup strategy in place and to test the backups regularly to ensure that they are reliable and up-to-date.
