Hi all,

I have had a batch of devices which are having issues when users log into the devices they get a black screen and just the cursor loaded however restarting the device and getting the user to log back in fixes it.

We have had several devices do this, why could this be? Is there a better fix than the work around

Make sure Windows as well as Display drivers are updated.

You may consider creating a new user id to check if there is any issue related to profile corruption.

Open Command Prompt as Admin and execute the following commands one after the another:

    sfc /scannow

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

You may also try a System Restore.

    Hello,

This black screen with cursor issue can occur for various reasons. Here are some potential causes and solutions:

    1. Mapped Drives: If users have mapped drives to a clustered file share, this issue can occur when they are off the network. Unmapping the drives before logging off might help.
    2. Windows Updates: Sometimes, updates can cause this problem. If the issue started after a recent update, you might want to try uninstalling the update or restoring the system to a point before the update.
    3. Folder Redirection: For users with folder redirection enabled, this issue can occur when they are not connected to the network. Unfortunately, removing folder redirection might not be an option, but you can try different settings and policies to mitigate the issue.
    4. Remote Desktop Services: If the issue occurs during a Remote Desktop session, it might be related to licensing issues. Ensuring that the Remote Desktop Licensing server is reachable and properly configured can help.
    5. BitLocker Recovery Key: In some cases, the system might request a BitLocker recovery key during startup. If you don't have the key, you might need to find it through your Microsoft account or other methods.

    Best Regards,

    Ian Xue
