Hello,
The BitLocker recovery key prompt appears when BitLocker, a drive encryption feature included in Windows, detects a potential unauthorized attempt to access the drive or when changes are detected in the system’s configuration that BitLocker interprets as a security risk. This is a security measure to protect your data.
Suspend or Disable BitLocker:
Once you unlock the drive and access Windows, you can temporarily suspend or permanently disable BitLocker if you no longer wish to use it.
To suspend BitLocker, go to “Control Panel” > “System and Security” > “BitLocker Drive Encryption” and then click “Suspend protection.” This will stop BitLocker from asking for the recovery key at startup without decrypting the data on the drive.
BitLocker asks for the recovery key when you start your PC, there might be an underlying issue causing BitLocker to trigger, such as hardware changes, BIOS updates, or firmware issues.Make sure that your hardware components are properly seated, and there are no issues with the motherboard or the TPM chip.
Backup Your Data:
Before making any additional changes to BitLocker settings, it’s advisable to back up your important data to avoid data loss in case something goes wrong during the process.
Use Command Line to Manage BitLocker (Advanced):
Skilled users can use the manage-bde command-line tool to manage BitLocker settings, including turning off BitLocker and decrypting the drive. Using an admin Command Prompt, you can type manage-bde -status to check the status of BitLocker and use manage-bde -off C: to turn off BitLocker on the C: drive.
Best Regards,
Hania Lian
