    Hello @Thomaskyle,

welcome to this moderated Azure community forum.

This Generate data functionality was in preview.

It is replaced by the new Event Hubs Data Explorer feature.

Check the documentation on how to send messages via that new solution. There you can see it also supports sending custom properties, optionally.

The ‘Generate Data Preview’ option might be missing from your Azure Event Hub instance for a few reasons:

    1. Permissions: You might not have the necessary permissions. Ensure that you have the appropriate role, such as a Contributor or Stream Analytics Query tester, on the subscription1.
    2. Virtual Network Configuration: If your Event Hub is in a virtual network, you need to access the portal from a virtual machine (VM) within the same virtual network. The Data Generator doesn’t work with private endpoints with public access blocked unless accessed from the subnet of the virtual network for which the private endpoint is configured2.
    3. Feature Availability: The Data Generator feature is still in preview and might not be available in all regions or for all configurations

Btw. note that the Data generator preview feature is deprecated and has been replaced with the Event Hubs Data Explorer. You should use it instead.
