I am encountering an issue when trying to open the Windows server backup tool. Here are error details from Event Viewer:

Please assist, this the second time I am encountering this issue. First I deleted the backup catalog with the hope that it will delete corrupted metadata. The error was cleared , however when i try to restore the catalog to be able to access the backups the issue resurfaces. Now this is the second time months later.

Addition information:

  • No updates installed on the day the application crashed.
  • The server was gracefully restarted earlier that day. Thats all. \\

    The 0xc0000005 error is usually caused by your computer not being able to properly handle running a specific program. It has many different causes, including RAM failure issues, system file errors, etc. I suggest you open cmd as an administrator and run the following command to see if there is any system file corruption.

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

    sfc /scannow
