Can I delete the RSTempfiles for microsoft report server?

There's and RSTempFiles folder on the report services server, that is taking up so much space.

from my understanding and what others are saying. These are temporary files caused either by a report that's has a high number of requests.
But we cannot delete these files. They may be cleared by some process in a short while but in some cases, it just stays big for days.

how do I deal with this?
what is the safest way of cleaning up this folder?
