AzCopy can transfer data from AWS and GCP to Azure. If we install AzCopy on a standalone Linux VM and want to transfer data from other clouds to Azure, will the data stream through our own VM, making our network busy, or will Azure handle the transfer directly without impacting our VM's network?

Solution

This is what happen. When using AzCopy to transfer data from Google Cloud Storage (GCP) to Azure Blob Storage, the data is copied directly between GCP and Azure storage servers. This means that the data transfer does not consume your VM's network bandwidth. Azure handles the transfer without impacting your VM's network. AzCopy uses the Put Block From URL API, so data is copied directly between Google Cloud Storage and storage servers. These copy operations don't use the network bandwidth of your computer.
