How to static and cross compile the C-based Azure Tutorial with an IoT client?

I successfully did this Tutorial with an C-based IoT-client:

Now I would like to excecute this sample on a ARM architekture, which means I would have to do a static cross compiling because I want to copy the executable on an embedded system.

Unfurtunatey there is no information in the tutorial include how you can do a cross compiling with cmake. Has anybody information how you can do this?

For that you have to do some adjustments on the CMake, plus you have to pull in libraries to provide (at least) TLS and network stack. Not very straightforward...

If you are onto embedded systems and .NET may I suggest that you take a look at .NET nanoFramework ? Ready to flash images for several MCUs (from STM32 to ESP32, NXP, TI, Silabs, etc). And NuGet packages with Azure SDK.

Hello Simoes, thank you for this information. I'm not a C-Programmer. Therfore this is a challange for me. Am I right that I would have to use toolchain file for that?

Quite the oposite: this is all C#. The intricancies of the MCUs and all the and C/C++ details are removed from your path. You "just" need VS and an an extension.

ok, well actually what I want is this: I want to have any C-based simple IoT Central Client, and copy/run the executable on an ARM based embeddet system. What is the easiest way to do that? My idea was to use the sample above, cross compile it and copy the executable. Is this not a good idea?

I'm not sure how familiar you are with embedded systems... "cross compile it and copy the executable" seems a very oversimplfied version on what's involved there. Tipically embedded systems don't have an OS running and you don't "drop" executables on it, as you do with a Windows machine.

Well the Linux OS of our embeddet system is "ElinOS". I have now managed to perform a cross compilation via Docker and successfully copyed/run the executable on this system.
