Cannot open past Mail emails in New Outlook

I cannot open my Mail emails that were saved in Word Documents in the New Outlook. A message states I need to purchase Microsoft 365. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

How do you open an email? Can't all emails be opened?

I have hundreds of emails that I saved to Word folders from Mail. If I try to open one of the emails from a folder to the New Outlook, a message appears stating, "Sorry, the file couldn't be opened. This file type requires a Microsoft 365 subscription to open. Get Microsoft 365".

I reproduce the issue in my New Outlook. Did you just change the file name? According to my tests, it is saved in .eml form by default in New Outlook. If I change the file name, I get the same error as you.

From what I can tell, the emails I saved from Mail without changing the file names are EML files and do open in New Outlook. The emails which I named and saved are filed as Outlook Items and will not open. With a few emails I tried to open (EML and Outlook Items) a message appeared stating the file had been moved or deleted.

What type of messages do you save?

As I saved in the picture above, if you save as an Outlook item you can't open it.

Can you provide specific steps and screenshots to reproduce this? Be careful to hide private information.

I had the same problem when I updated to Microsoft 365 with New Outlook. Right Click on the archived email you want to open. Select "Open With". Select "Search the Microsoft Store". Download "File Viewer Plus". Now this program will be a selection in "Open With" and you can open any of the files. Cheers.
