My church is using outlook for email and Microsoft 365 with the church's domain. They want to use Google Workspace for email and keep Microsoft 365 subscription and email. We have a website through Azure App. So, I just want to use email for Google and keep everything the same on Microsoft. I also want to manage their emails from Microsoft admin center. Is that possible? Do I have to buy another domain? Will I be able to create new emails from Microsoft Admin Center? How about from Google Workspace?

    Hello @Davidn,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A and thank you for posting your questions here.

Regarding your questions, I understand that you are seeking to transition your church's email system from Outlook and Microsoft 365 to Google Workspace while retaining the Microsoft 365 subscription and email services. You also aim to continue managing emails through the Microsoft Admin Center and inquire whether they need to purchase another domain for this transition.

Yes, it is possible to use Google Workspace for email while keeping Microsoft 365 subscription and email for other purposes such as file storage, collaboration tools, etc. You can configure your domain's DNS settings to route email traffic to Google Workspace for email while keeping other services associated with Microsoft 365.

I enlist few outlines of what you can do:

    1. Set up Google Workspace for email by signing up for Google Workspace and configure your domain's MX records to point to Google's mail servers. This will ensure that emails sent to your domain are routed through Google Workspace.
    2. Keep Microsoft 365 subscription to maintain your subscription for Microsoft 365 and continue using other services like SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, AD, etc.
    3. Manage emails from Microsoft Admin Center though, your primary email service will be through Google Workspace, you can still manage other aspects of your domain, including user accounts, DNS settings, etc., from the Microsoft 365 admin center.
    4. No need to buy another domain, continue using your existing domain with both Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. You'll just need to configure the DNS settings appropriately to ensure that email traffic is routed correctly.
    5. Regarding managing emails from Microsoft Admin Center, while you can manage some aspects of your domain's email settings, such as DNS records, user accounts, etc., you'll primarily manage email accounts, settings, and configurations within the Google Workspace Admin console for the email accounts hosted on Google's servers.

I hope this is helpful! Do not hesitate to let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

You can integrate Google Workspace (formerly known as G Suite) for email while keeping your Microsoft 365 subscription and other services. You can set up Google Workspace to handle your church’s email. This involves configuring MX (Mail Exchange) records for your domain to point to Google’s mail servers. During this process, you’ll need to verify domain ownership with Google Workspace and create necessary DNS records.

Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace can coexist seamlessly, allowing you to choose the best tools for each task. For email management, you may primarily use the Google Admin Console for Google Workspace and the Microsoft 365 Admin Center for Microsoft 365. If you prefer to manage everything from the Microsoft Admin Center, you may set up forwarding rules to route emails from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 mailboxes.

Thank you for your anwsers. I have a similar work context and I'm glad there is a solution. But I searched for configuration and settings options and couldn't find it. Please advice on how to set notification emails in microsoft365 services (like Teams, Lists) to be redirected to Gmail.

My main domain let's say "xyz.com" was my primary one used in microsoft365 environment. Users have mailboxes and services set up to work (MX's set on server). When I add the domain to Google Workspace and use MX records to route emails to Gmail, I still recieve notifications from Teams, Lists etc. to Outlook. I tried the email forwarding towards Gmail in the same domain, but it doesn't work. I could only make it work using two different domains (one for MS, another for Google), and setting antispam to allow sending emails to external domains.

Oh, and our user names are the same both in Microsoft365 and in Google Workspace, like name.lastname@xyz.com. I want to be able to open a notification from Teams (or other service) in Gmail, and open a link directly to that service. Is it possible? How can I do it in the same domain?
