When I enter "wsl" on the PowerShell, the System prompts, Class not registered Error code: Wsl/CallMsi/REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG

Windows Features

Hyper-V: Enabled

Virtual Machine Platform: Enabled

Windows Hypervisor Platform: Enabled

Windows Subsystem for Linux: Enabled

BIOS: VT enabled

I have tried "disabling/enabling the “Windows Subsystem for Linux” from "Turn Windows Features on or off"

This issue prevents opening Ubuntu on Windows

I also encountered this issue while initializing wsl. Before going down the rabbit hole, you might want to verify that your system is using the latest release (or pre-release, if required) of WSL.

I recently got into similler problem where where reinstalling dockers desktop wasn't working so I had to reinstall the WSL .
1 - I installed it manually from this link : https://github.com/microsoft/WSL/releases/download/2.3.24/wsl.2.3.24.0.x64.msi

2 - After downloading install it , then run powershell as administrator(Reopen/restart device if it is already running after the install) .
3 - Type this command to switch to versions you currently installed : wsl --set-default-version 2
4 - After it is changed now we have to install ubuntu distribution : wsl --install -d Ubuntu
5 - On install it will take isername and password for ubuntu user , username should be small
6 - after it is installed it will automatically switch you too the ubuntu terminal user or path , update the packages in ubuntu by running this commad sudo apt update

All set , now run dockers . Hope it will work .

My device specification :
1 - Windows 11
2 - x64
Error encountered initially : --wsl shutdown , unable to execute commands while opening dockers

Hello, Thank you for posting in Q&A forum. To fix "Class not registered" error, you can repair WSL on "Settings > Applications > Installed Applications > Windows Subsystem for Linux > Advanced Options > Repair". If above method doesn't work, you can try below steps:

Saving the virtual disk

Uninstalling Windows Subsystem for Linux Preview

Installing Windows Subsystem for Linux Preview without rebooting Or you can try downloading the latest stable MSI release of WSL from the Microsoft WSL releases page. Best Regards,
