Installing SSDT 15.8 for visual studio 2017 failing to install

Hello, I am trying to install SSDT 15.8 for visual studio 2017 on windows 11 and keeps on failing. VS 2017 is installed with Data Storage and Processing option. I have tried uninstall/install of VS 2017, frame work 4.8 multiple times without any success. SSDT running as admin crashing as son as I select Visual Studio 2017 from dropdown without clicking Install button. Also, not able to find Integration service project template in extension and updates in VS 2017 Also tried installing with command prompt, SSDT-Setup-ENU.exe /INSTALLIS /passive. This shows up in Programs and feature but in VS studio i do not show template to create new integration service project. I have been looking for solution for a while now with any success. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Is there any limitation on your machine such as group policy, antivirus software and extensions? If so, please try to disable them temporarily and test again.

Did you change anything like deleting some system files, changing some paths, and modifying the Registry keys? If so, please try to recover them.

Did you try to run the SSDT normally without running it as admin?

HI,I was running SSDT as an admin. I believe there are group policy and antivirus running on the machine. No i have not deleted any system files or change paths or modify keys. Thanks

Hello @HP,

The error code: 0x80070005 does indicate that there’s an "access denied" issue.

Can you confirm that the group policy and antivirus installed on your machine doesn’t block you from installing SSIS/SSDT?

Is it possible for you to try to disable them temporarily?

Thank you for sharing us the screenshot.

I did see this screenshot, and you can see that on the last line => HRESULT: 0x80070005.

Error code 0x80070643 indicates that installation cache or ISO is corrupted, error code 0x80070005 indicates that access is denied.

As you have tried to reinstall VS and SSDT, I suggest you update Windows OS, and reinstall SSDT.

Besides, have you kindly communicated with your administrator or IT department to double confirm that the group policy and antivirus don’t block you from installing the SSDT/assembly?

It is better to start using VS2019. Even free of charge Community edition is good enough to develop SSIS projects. VS2019 is not using SSDT anymore. It needs "SQL Server Integration Services Projects" extension for VS2019. Here is its download link: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=SSIS.SqlServerIntegrationServicesProjects

VS2019 supports all versions between 2012 - 2022. Please see below.

Hi, Thanks for your response. I have installed VS 2019 and then downloaded SSIS Project 4.5. I started install and getting below error: Microsoft AS OLE DB Provider for SQL Server 2016: An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,type="win32",version="8.0.50727.6229",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="x86"'. Please try the following at the command prompt, opened as Administrator:

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

sfc /scannow

@Yitzhak Khabinsky I ran DISM this morning and just now ran sfc command. it showed that corrupt files are successfully repaired. I rebooted machine and ran SSIS 4.4 install. It still gives same error.
