  • I have Windows 11 Pro Version 21H2.
  • No, as you know, it does not have a Settings/Personalization/Taskbar option to NEVER group icons on the taskbar.
  • No, as you know, it cannot be changed at RegEdit by changing the 0 to a 2 to allow ungrouping.
  • Can the grouping-of-icons on the taskbar issue be fixed?
  • Is Microsoft working on a solution to fix this issue?
  • Is there a date that it can be expected to be fixed?

    Hi there,

    Thanks for your post.

Windows 11 23H2, there should be an option to never combine taskbar icons by right-clicking on the taskbar > Taskbar settings > Taskbar behaviors > Set the option "Combine taskbar buttons and hide labels" to Never.

You can update Windows 11 to the latest version by opening the Windows Update app, click Check for updates, and finally Download & install.

This has been introduced (as of July 2024) but it's still quite buggy - I now often get a taskbar tab labelled "Group | xxx | yyy" which does nothing other than take up space. I can't close it, except by closing all the windows in the group and re-opening them - which is clearly useless. It's intermittent and so must be a bug. If it wasn't a corporate requirement, I would still be on Windows 10.

Unfortunately, Windows 11 does not currently have an option to ungroup icons on the taskbar. Microsoft has not announced any plans to add this feature in the future. However, you can try using third-party software to achieve this functionality. Please note that using third-party software may have unintended consequences and is not officially supported by Microsoft.
