Windows Cals are not installed anywhere, just hang on to your documentation for general record keeping and also in case of audit. A Windows Server CAL is a license that grants access Windows Server. CALs are used in conjunction with Microsoft Windows Server OS licenses to allow Users and/or Devices to access and utilize the services of that windows server

    • User CALs allow a single user access to any number of Windows Servers from an unlimited number of devices
    • Device CALs allow an unlimited number of users to access any number of Windows Servers from a single device
    • CALs are licensed to access servers of the same level and below. (not forward compatible)
    • Only 1 CAL per user or per device is required regardless of how many servers you actually have.

    Hello,

To view the number of User CALs (Client Access Licenses) in use on a Windows Server, you can follow these steps:

    1. Open the Server Manager on the Windows Server.
    2. Click on the "Tools" menu and select "Terminal Services" or "Remote Desktop Services" depending on the version of Windows Server you are using.
    3. Click on "RD Licensing Manager" to open the Remote Desktop Licensing Manager.
    4. In the left pane, select the server that you want to view the User CALs for.
    5. In the right pane, you will see the number of User CALs that are currently in use.

Note: If you are using a different licensing model, such as per-device licensing, the steps may be slightly different.

    Hope it helps.

    Regards.

    Hania Lian
