when dialing out I get an error stating "you are not setup to use this calling feature". I have a pay as you go calling plan and the Teams Essentials with Phone license. A phone number with emergency calling configured is also assigned to the user and the dial pad is visible. I am also able to make out going calls. What am I missing?

    Hi @jpcapone

Could you describe when and where did you dial out in Microsoft Teams?

There are two main reasons why this error occurs. One is that you don’t have an active Office 365 Calling Plan license that supports conference calls. The other one is that your IT admin forgot to set up certain Calling Plan settings.

If Microsoft is your phone provider and you have a Phone System License from them, ensure you assigned the right phone number to the user. If a phone number has already been associated with the respective user account, remove it and assign it again.

Besides, you need to add the Emergency location. That’s a compulsory step when you set up Calling Plans. Each phone number or user needs to have an emergency location. For more information, check out Microsoft’s Support page on how to assign or change an emergency location for a user.

There could be one more reason for facing the problem mentioned here. I had the same issue. I could receive calls but was unable to make calls. The missing thing in my case was buying Communication Credits since I was on a Pay-as-you-Go plan. So the steps to follow for someone opting for a Pay-As-You-Go calling plan would be, 1) buy Teams Phone license, 2) buy Pay-as-you-Go Calling Plan for your desired Country Zone, 3) Assign both the licenses to the user 4) Assign Emergency Location for the phone number assigned 5) Buy Communication Credits license and top up some money using a credit card etc. 6) Assign the Communication Credits license to the user. Hope this helps.
