How can I switch fro Skype to MS Teams when I create a video call from Outlook

I hold a licence for Microsoft 365 Family.

I want to use MS Teams for video calls but the default system is Skype. How can I change from Skype to MS Teams so that I can define the invite is a MS Teams invite directly in outlook?

i.e. I generate the MS Teams link directly in Outlook

I recommend using Teams client (web/desktop) app to schedule a Teams Meeting. Then If you want to edit it on Outlook client (web/desktop)..

Dear Francisco,

This is the way I am doing today. It works thou add complexity as follows:

when I send to the mail of the counterpart the invite from Teams the link for the video call disappear! so I have always to cut and paste it into the outlook invite (and remember to do so...)

when I change the time of a video call in Outlook, Teams entry do not sync. In consequence I receive prompt from Teams for meetings at the wrong time creating confusion.

It is clear that my Outlook and Teams are not correctly synchronised.

Can I hope in some help from Microsoft? How can I get it?

I agree with RVO, this a retro step. On Microsoft 365 Family why can't we create a new Teams event as we could in desktop Outlook? I can't find any option, add in or setting to change Skype to Teams?

Hi @RVO

To create a Teams meeting from Outlook, check and enable the following two settings:

Check and enable Teams add-in, please follow the steps below:

select File > Options.

In the Outlook Options dialog box, select the Add-ins tab.

Check whether Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office is listed in the Active Application Add-ins list.

If the add-in is not listed in the list of active applications, and you see the Teams Meeting Add-in listed in the Disabled Application Add-ins list, select Manage > COM Add-ins and then select Go…

Select the checkbox next to Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office.

Select OK on all the dialog boxes that are open and restart Outlook.

Set up online meetings to be Teams meetings: Go to File > Options> Calendar> Add online meetings to all meetings.

thanks for your answer.

Unfortunately the version of Outlook you have utilised do not correspond to the one I am using. I use the 16.61 ver and the so called New Outlook.

That means that under File there isn't the voice Option Screenshot 2023-08-25 at 15.27.48.png

This is the way add ins are shown and Teams is not present Screenshot 2023-08-25 at 15.42.56.png

I am wondering where I have missed the possibility to connect Outlook and Teams....

To switch from Skype to Teams when you create a video call from Outlook, you can follow these steps:

Open Outlook and go to your calendar.

Click on the meeting that you want to change the video call service for.

On the Meeting tab, click on the Video Call button.

In the Video Call dialog box, select Microsoft Teams from the Service drop-down list.

Click on the OK button.

The video call will now be created using Microsoft Teams.

Here are some additional things to keep in mind:

If you are using Outlook on the web, you may need to click on the More options button (three dots) to see the option to change the video call service.

If you are using an older version of Outlook, you may not see the option to change the video call service. In this case, you can create the meeting in Microsoft Teams and then copy the meeting invite into Outlook.

When creating a video call in Outlook, choose the "New Meeting" option. In the meeting details, you'll typically see a "Skype Meeting" button. Instead of selecting this, look for and click on the "Teams Meeting" button. This action will integrate the MS Teams video call link into your Outlook invitation.
