Cannot join VM to Azure Domain

I have created ADDS and a new VM. I am able to login through RDP but cannot join the domain.
Cloud only AD not on prem. No need to synch. Created new join.domain account reset password.
Tried many combinations of account credentials but none work.

Are you following any documentation when joining your Azure VM?

Can you confirm if you're using Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS) or Azure Active Directory Domain Services (Azure AD DS)?

Are you getting any error messages?

Can you provide any screenshots of what you're seeing/trying to do? Keeping PII in mind.

If you're using AzureAD DS, you can follow this doc to join your Azure VM.
