Now that we no longer have the "classic administrator" we are no longer able to update payment methods on our Pay-As-You-Go Subscription.

Hi

I'm logged into the portal with an account that has the roles listed below and the ability to manage payment methods is not working. It says "You need to be the Account administrator for the subscription to view this page."

I thought this was no longer a thing now that "classic administrator" has gone away?

I've also tried logging in as the user listed as the "Account Admin" under the "Pay-As-You-Go" properties and it makes no difference.

This is a simple MOSP account... we have no billing scopes or billing profiles - everything is tied to the subscription from what I can tell.

Roles assigned to the account I'm logged in as:

Entra Assigned Roles:

  • -Billing Administrator
  • -Global Administrator

Azure Role Assignments:

  • -Owner (Pay-As-You-Go)
  • -Cost Management Contributor (Pay-As-You-Go)
  • -ALL THE BILLING (Pay-As-You-Go)
  • -User Access Administrator (Root)

Note: The "ALL THE BILLING" is a custom role with everything from billing in it.

Any ideas?

Thank you for any help

Mike

    Hi Mike,

Please navigate to Cost Management + Billing using link below:

    https://portal.azure.com/#blade/Microsoft_Azure_GTM/ModernBillingMenuBlade

Next click on Access control (IAM) blade. Click Add button, and see if you are able to assign Billing account owner role to your account.

For troubleshooting, click on Billing scopes blade. What scopes do you see? If you click "As Global Administrator, check this box to view all..." do you see any additional scopes, or same?

If you click on Billing -- Payment methods blade, do you get an error? If you were able to assign Billing account owner above but still see an error accessing payment methods, you may want to try signing out and back in and then try again.

Please click Accept Answer and upvote if the above was helpful.

    Thanks.

    Hi Mike,

Okay, you are missing a ton of stuff from Cost Management + Billing, so my guess is you do not have access to the billing account.

I recommend you attempt to create billing support request using my instructions below. I say "attempt" because even though these instructions normally work, I'm unsure in your case since you have limited access to billing.

Billing support requests are free of charge. The key is to not click on any of the recommended solutions and finish creating request.

Use this link to start the process:

    https://portal.azure.com/#view/Microsoft_Azure_CostManagement/Menu/~/support/openedBy/AzurePortal

NOTE: The link above should take you to Cost Management -- Help -- New support request blade in the Azure portal. If for some reason the link doesn't work you can navigate there manually.

Fill out Issue type: Billing, Summary, Problem type: Manage Payment Methods, Problem subtype: Need help updating or or adding credit card, click Next. There will be a delay, then some recommended solutions will be shown. DO NOT CLICK on any of the recommended options shown.

In the upper left corner, click Return to support request

azure support request Return to support request

Click Next to move to Additional details tab, fill out required information, email/phone, etc., click Next, review details and submit case. After submitting you should receive an automated email with a few minutes and a support engineer should contact you within 1 business day.

Please click Accept Answer and upvote if the above was useful. If something is unclear and/or you have difficulties creating the support cased please add comment below

    Thanks.
