How to migrate virtual machine from Nutanix to Microsoft Hyper-V?

We are transitioning from a Nutanix HCI environment to Dell PowerEdge servers, specifically targeting Hyper-V as our hypervisor.

Our primary challenge is migrating existing Virtual Machines from Nutanix to Hyper-V. Nutanix Move lacks support for migrations outside of Nutanix solutions (except for cloud) due to commercial limitations. They have recommended engaging Microsoft for guidance, but I've been unable to locate specific articles or documentation on this migration path.

I am seeking a more efficient solution than manually recreating servers and migrating data individually, as this approach is time-consuming and resource intensive. Are there any recommended methods or tools for migrating VMs from Nutanix to Hyper-V?

    Hi,

Microsoft once provided the Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter (MVMC) tool that can convert VMs from various formats to Hyper-V. However this tool has already reached the end of support and is no longer available.

You can give a try to some third-party solutions like StarWind V2V Converter which can convert VMs between different formats, including VMware, Hyper-V, and others. The VMs can be first exported to a compatible format then be converted to Hyper-V VHD/VHDX format using StarWind V2V Converter.
