Hyper-V VM SCSI-.vhdx issue

Hi,

So, before I came on board Windows Server 2022 was installed and a VM was created for our File Sharing services. Only 3 checkpoints have been created (latest is 3 months ago). Everything was operational until Dec 29th when an unplanned back up happened and duplicated all of the data which filled up the storage and it seems I don't have enough RAM to start the VM. When this back up happened within the SCSI Controller the checkpoint replaced the DC.vhdx. So, here are the steps I have tried to complete but no luck....

--- I backed up our data via external drive. I tried to just remove volume from being shared but it actually DELETED the Volume and all of the data (in the process of recovering the files via easeUS Data Recovery) is there a reason why so many of the data is replicated multiple times which they are corrupt?

  1. I added storage into the MegaRaid Storage (added 5TB) successful
  2. I added storage via Disk Management - successful
  3. I tried to delete a checkpoint, to where I should have had enough Ram to start the VM.
  4. I referred the Hard Drive back to the original DC.vhdx (applied changes and its been running for 3 days) NOTE- I do not see any activity within resource monitor on the disk so I am assuming it stalled out.

How do I get the VM back active if I can't originate back to the DC?

If pics were to assist I have a few.

    Hi,

What error messages do you see when starting the VM? If Hyper-V cannot allocate the required RAM for the VM, you may consider reducing the startup memory of that. To reduce the startup VM, go to Memory in the VM Settings and adjust RAM to a lower amount. If Dynamic Memory is enabled, you need to reduce the Minimum RAM and set the startup RAM to a value not less than the Minimum RAM.

The Error that I am currently seeing is "The application encountered an error while attempting to change the state of the "Group Share"

    VM failed to start

Synthetic SCSi Controller (Instance ID...) Failed to power on with Error "A virtual disk support provider for the specified file was not found"

Failed to configure D:\DC_D.vhdx. The storage where the virtual hard disk is located does not support virtual hard disk sharing.

Thought... Maybe mounting the latest checkpoint on a External drive that way I at least have my information if I am having to rebuild the VM...

Create new VM with previous VM???

I just need this Data :(

    So,

I was able to get the path corrected by finding the original D.VHDX file... but, when I try to start my VM I get a storage error via clusters...

I have added two 6TB drives to my RAID 5 so that opened up enough space for storage.

I tried to extend the volume via disk management but I get the following error... Not sure if I need to extend the clusters or if I even can.

    Suggestions?
